NEW DELHI, FEB 7: One major upset and a few minor ones in both men and women’s singles marked Day Two of the Open events in the Indian Oil Servo National Badminton Championships at the IG Stadium here today.

In his maiden appearance in the senior nationals, local lad Madhur Kalia sent No. 4 seed Sushant Saxena packing 15-11, 2-15, 15-11 to enter the pre-quarterfinals, while his compatriot Davinder Dhillon, seeded No. 10, bowed out to Utsav Mishra of UP 15-8, 15-2. Earlier, ninth seeded Jaison Xavier of Kerala lost to D. Guru Prasad of Karnataka 12-15, 12-15 in the second round. But for these, all seeds sailed through to the next round.In women’s singles, the top seeds had smooth passage into the pre-quarters while 10th seeded Archana Deodhar of Maharashtra and 12th seeded Kirti Kadam failed to go beyond the third round.
