Macedonia has apologised to Pakistan for the killing of six Pakistanis migrants in March 2002 on the suspicion that they were Al Qaeda activists and has assured full justice to the victims’ families. Pakistani Ambassador to Macedonia Sher Afgan Khan met Macedonian Deputy Minister for Interior Hasbi Lika, who offered apologies to the government and bereaved families, a media report said. Khan also held discussions with Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs Fuad Hasanovic and other Macedonian authorities, seeking justice for those murdered. Hasanovic said the Macedonian government was fully committed to ensuring that ‘‘justice was done to the families of the victims,’’ adding the perpetrators of the ‘‘abhorrent crime’’ would be punished, APP news agency said.

The Pakistanis were shot dead by Macedonian security forces in Rastankski Lozja in March 2002, allegedly to win US favour and show Washington that the Macedonian government was its ally in the war against terror. — (PTI)
