CHANDIGARH, January 9: Harpreet Singh alias Lucky, the 24-year-old implicated in the Kulwant murder case but declared innocent by the Supreme Court, has moved an application seeking the withdrawal of the security cover provided to him.

In an application submitted before UT Additional District and Sessions Judge M.R. Batra, Lucky has said that there was no danger to his life or property following the improved law and order conditions in Punjab.

The judge, while taking up the application, has issued notice to the State of Punjab for tomorrow.

Earlier, eight CRPF personnel along with two Punjab Police constables were deployed for providing a security cover to Lucky till the disposal of the case, upon the UT District and Sessions Judge’s directions.

Trial was initiated against Lucky by the Punjab Police after a Ropar advocate, Kulwant Singh, his wife and minor son disappeared in January 1993.

The CBI, directed to investigate the matter by the SC, had termed Lucky innocent and DSP Jaspal Singh, InspectorBalwant Singh, Sub-Inspector Arvinder Bir Singh and ASI Darshan Singh were said to be responsible for the fabrication of evidence against him. The main case will come up for hearing on January 18.
