The postmortem report of a Lucknow resident Archana Sharma (32), who was found dead in an ashram in Uttarakhand, has confirmed strangulation as the cause of death. The body had injury marks on hands, neck and face, which made the police believe that murder took place in a fit of anger.

The police are now hunting for the absconding youth, who had visited the ashram with Sharma. According to the ashram records, she had entered the youth’s credentials as that of her husband, Ashok Kumar. A resident of Alambagh area in Lucknow, she used to work with Jan Vishleshan Sansthan in the city.

On Friday morning, the Uttarakhand police had recovered her body from an ashram in Munighirati area of Tehri district. The police identified her body by an identity card found in her bag. Subsequently, the policemen informed her husband Alok Sharma and brother Santosh Sharma, both in Lucknow.

The deceased had booked a room in the ashram for two-days. “The booking was done after the ashram received a courier on October 23, requesting for the booking. The courier was sent from Lucknow,” Munighirati police station in-charge S C Bhandare told The Indian Express. He added Sharma was not taken forcibly to Uttarakhand because her husband had confirmed that the note in the courier was written by his wife.

According to the police, the ashram staff failed to provide any concrete information about Sharma and the youth. They, however, claimed that earlier also the duo had stayed in the ashram.

Her brother Santosh, a medical representative, said, “My sister had gone to Tehri for some official work”.

Circle Officer Alambagh Virendra Kumar said: “Neighbours of the deceased in Alambagh informed us after her brother and husband received a call from the Uttarakhand police.”
