In the wake of the Mayawati tape controversy, the Lok Sabha would have a meeting of all the floor leaders on the issue of misuse of MP Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) funds, to be called by the Speaker Manohar Joshi.
At the meeting of the Business Advisory Committee for Lok Sabha in the evening today, it was decided that the matter should be discussed in the House only if the need arose even after such a meeting.
A majority of the leaders present, representing the Opposition and the ruling NDA, felt that the MPLADS funds issue should not be discussed in the Lok Sabha. Some members even felt that the scheme should be scrapped altogether.
While the date of the meeting has not yet been set, its agenda would be to chart out a set of guidelines against the misuse of MPLADS funds and also a framework for ensuring proper utilisation.
