Foreign Ministers from India, Brazil, Japan and Germany meet in London on Sunday to discuss ways to maximise support for the G-4 framework resolution on expansion of the UN Security Council.
The G-4 nations will be meeting for the third time this month to press ahead with their resolution for expanding the Security Council. K Natwar Singh and the other three G-4 Foreign Ministers will continue their consultations with their African Union counterparts on Monday.
The discussions take place days after the US made it clear it would oppose the G-4 resolution. During his meeting with PM Manmohan Singh, President George W Bush said the US wanted the Security Council to be expanded only after other UN reforms are taken up.
Singh later clarified that US opposition to the G-4 resolution did not mean it was rejecting India’s claim to permanent membership of the UNSC.
