Underlining the futility of a mid-term election, Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) chief Ramvilas Paswan on Sunday declared that his party would go it alone in Bihar, maintaining equidistance from the NDA as well as the RJD.

“Though early elections are not in the interest of the masses, at the same time we are preparing to face it. The LJP will go it alone. There is no meaning of the UPA in Bihar,” Paswan said while strongly denying the possibility of aligning with Lalu Prasad Yadav’s RJD.

In the last general election, the RJD and LJP had reached a seat adjustment to defeat the NDA Government at the Centre. The combination had paid dividends, with the RJD bagging 24 seats. But in the subsequent Assembly polls, the LJP broke away and contested alone leading to the RJD Government’s defeat.

Paswan said an early general election will not change the political status at the Centre. “If the Congress and the Left feel they will gain from an early election then they are mistaken. The outcome will be more or less the same and the nuclear issue will also remain. So an early election would be futile in my view,” Paswan pointed out.
