SURAT, Jan 28: The Prohibition police, in a series of raids conducted over the past two days, nabbed four people involved in bootlegging in the city and district and seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth more than Rs 3 lakhs and three vehicles.

According to details, one Govindsingh Balakram Rajput was nabbed from the Golwad area of the city on Thursday with 12 bottles of IMFL strapped onto his body. The raid was carried out under the supervision of prohibition superintendent Gajendrasinh Puwar.

In another major seizure of IMFL from Sarthana Octroi post on the outskirts of the city, one Mohammed Nissar Shaikh was nabbed with 432 bottles of IMFL worth Rs 1.30 lakhs. A team of prohibition police, on a tip off, intercepted a Maruti Van (GJ 5 PP 2693) and seized the whisky bottles.

In the third raid, 84 bottles of whisky valued at Rs 25,000 were seized from a Maruti 800 car, parked opposite the Krishi Mangal Hall at Majura Gate. While the car numbered GJ 5 N 1157 and worth Rs 80,000 was seized, car driver Javed Anwar Shaikh was nabbed.

In the fourth raid at Inayat Street in Rander area of the city, one Abdul Ahmed Hamid was taken into custody by the prohibition police and whisky and brandy bottles worth Rs 38,000 seized. While an autorickshaw (GQO 6249) used to transport liquor was also seized, one of Hamid’s suppliers Hanif Qureshi has been declared an absconder, the police said. Besides Prohibition Superintendent G P Puwar, inspector Saiyyed, sub inspectors Nikam and Abdul Majid, and constables of the force conducted the raids.
