CHANDIGARH, Feb 16: Despite the ban on sale of liqour during elections, a wine shop in Nayagaon falling in Punjab territory on the UT-Punjab border was found openly flouting prohibitory orders this evening.

The wine shop (No L-2) had lifted its shutter and a number of customers, mostly youngsters, were seen flocking around it.

However, as the Express photographer tried to click a picture, the man behind the counter rushed out and hurriedly pulled the shutter down. The crowd, meanwhile, quickly disappeared into the dark alleys.

A few rowdies, in an inebriated state, surrounded the Express photographer, while a couple of them tried to snatch his camera. Another shouted, "Expose his film!" They also tried to snatch the scooter keys. It took a stern warning against harming the photographer or his equipment that they backed off. Nevertheless, two persons on a scooter and four others in a Maruti van followed the photographer and the reporter. Enroute, the scooter-borne persons came alongside the photographerand offered money in exchange of the film. The photographer managed to shake off the tail in Sector 19.

When contacted, UT District Magistrate K.K. Khandelwal, said "Since the liquor vend in Punjab territory was causing nuisance in the UT, we had written to Punjab to check the menace, but of no avail".
