CHANDIGARH, July 21: The joint installation of all the 24 Lions Clubs of Lions Clubs International District 321 F from Chandigarh, Mohali, Kansal, Kharar, Morinda, Chamkaur Sahib and Tail Twisters was carried out by distt governor Dr. N. K. Grover. The vice-presidents were appointed by by K. K. Sawhaney and the treasurers by Janak Gupta.

Addressing the participants, district governor Paramjit Kohli, who was chief guest on the occasion, said that the primary objective of joint installation was to save money in order to use it for providing education, health facilities and to conduct marriage of poor girls.

He announced that Lions Clubs of Chandigarh had donated more than Rs 5 lakh for the welfare of the families of those killed in Kargil and that more money was being collected for the cause.

The secretaries were also appointed by former district governor Ravi Goel, while presidents were appointed by former district governor, Lochan Mahajan.

Expressing his concern over the high illiteracy rate in the country, Kohli said that when a country like Cuba could reduce illiteracy from 25 to 3.9 per cent, India too should try to do so.
