The Indian challenge in the weightlifting event of the Games ended without any medal as its last lifter in the fray Shailaja Pujari bowed out with a fifth-place finish in the women’s 75kg category here today.

Shailaja managed a total lift of 225.5 kg to cap India’s dismal show in the weightlifting arena. The Indian weightlifter, who had a rich medal haul in the recent Commonwealth Games in Manchester, managed 95 kg in the snatch and 127.5 kg in clean and jerk.

China’s Ruiping Sun claimed the gold medal with a total lift of 270 kg while the silver was taken home by Kazkhstan’s Tatyana Khromova with a total of 257.5 kg.

South Korea’s Soon Hee Kim had to be content with the bronze medal with a lift of 242.5 kg.
