PATIALA, Oct 29: Employees of the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) and General Insurance Corporation (GIC) today organised a joint protest rally here against the Union Government’s introduction of the IRA Bill in Parliament yesterday.

The rally was addressed by the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) president N.K. Gaur, General Insurance Corporation Employees Association (GICEA) president Vinod Dhundia and Narinder Walia, president of the Northern Zone Insurance Employees Association, Chandigarh division.

All the leaders dwelt at length on the Union Government’s misplaced policies regarding opening of the Insurance Sector to foreigners, which, they believe, will ultimately kill this primary financial sector. They appealed to the government to abandon this plan keeping in view the interests of the nation. They threatened to intensify the agitation if the government failed to withdraw the Bill at the earliest.
