Former Uttar Pradesh CM Kalyan Singh, during whose tenure the Babri Masjid was demolished at Ayodhya, was on Friday directed by the Liberhan Commission to appear before it on November 17. Dismissal of Singh’s writ petition in the Delhi High Court that he should not be forced to give statement, paved the way for the Commission to ask him to appear before it. ‘‘Though the petition has been dismissed, Singh is not present even today. Keeping in view the facts and backgrounds, he is directed to appear on Nov 17,’’ said the Commission.
