MUMBAI, Nov 7: The Aarey Sub Divisional Police today took charge of the caucus of a leopard which was feared to have been hit by a speeding vehicle near a garden at Marol this morning.

The animal was found in the bushes and was partially decomposed with wounds on the head and face, according to the police. The carnivore also bled from the mouth hinting it could have been hit by a hard substance, the police added.

“Hurt by the impact, the animal could have taken refuge in the nearby fields and succumbed to its injuries,” remarked an officer.

The leopard was handed over to the officials at Sanjay Gandhi National Park for an autopsy. The report is awaited.
