Leipus takes stock, attends to Yuvraj

There was a familiar face watching the Indian team’s nets session Tuesday afternoon at the Adelaide Oval. Andrew Leipus dropped in to “meet his friends.” The physio, who was attached to the team the last time it toured Down Under, is now based in Adelaide and didn’t miss a chance to catch up with them.

Dressed in shorts and T-shirt, Leipus’ casual look was complete with a white cap and black shades. He’s enjoying a break after completing his advanced studies that he took up following a hectic stint with the Indian team. “It’s nice to be with your friends, family and enjoy life. I am doing good, taken up a bit of work here after having finished my studies. Just dropped in to say hello to John (Gloster, his successor and current physio), meet Gregory (King, trainer) and my friends in the team,” he said.

“It’s always nice to catch up with some cricket when they are playing,” he added, admitting that “the team has been playing some good cricket here, though was a bit unlucky at times.”

And work does follow Leipus wherever he goes. And he attended to a ‘case’ and it was none other than the hobbling Yuvraj Singh. “Yeah, had a chat with John and Yuvi over his knee, so guess it’s kind of being back to work whenever I come close to the Indian team,” he joked.

Yuvraj, meanwhile didn’t train with the team and just walked a few laps of the ground before leaving early. His right knee is still strapped increasing doubts over his availability before the Twenty20 and subsequent one-dayers.

Lepius, however, did express surprise over the packed schedule the Indians have on their hands in the coming months. “That’s huge cricket with little breaks,” he said, recalling the injury-syndrome in Indian cricket.

“Injuries always happen, the team has never been without injuries. It’s just that how to keep with it without anything major,” he added, before Kumble and Ganguly walked in for a little chat.

Thankfully, the word ‘injury’ wasn’t in the conversation.
