CHANDIGARH, Nov 5: Haryana Legal Services Authority has decided to observe November 9 as 'Legal Services Day' on November 9 to enlighten the masses about their legal rights provided by the Legal Services Authorities Act.In a statement issued here today, Punjab and Haryana High Court judge and and Haryana Legal Services Authority executive chairman, Justice V.K. Bali said the authority would organise seminars at session court complexes in each sessions division from 3 pm to 5 pm in all the districts. The Legal Services Authorities Act had come into force on this day, he added.The decision to observe Legal Services Day was taken in the annual meeting of the National Legal Services Auhtority, held under the chairmanship of Justice A S Anand, Chief Justice of India. Under this Act, persons whose annual income was not more than Rs 18,000 or those belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Backward Classes, women, disabled, children below 18 years and a person in custody are entitled to legal services under the aegis of Haryana Legal Services Authority.Justice Bali said that permanent Lok Adalats had been set up at all the district headquarters in the state and over 2.75 lakh cases had been settled in 912 lok Adalats held so far. In all, over Rs 60 crore had been given as compensation to the accident victims in the Lok Adalats held in the state. The Haryana State Legal Services Authority had provided legal aid to 7789 persons of weaker sections to enable them to seek relief in the Court of Law.
