The Left parties do not want to push the UPA government over the brink and there are signs of finding a way out of the current impasse over the contentious Indo-US nuclear deal, NCP president Sharad Pawar said on Saturday.
Pawar who met CPM leader Prakash Karat on Friday, said he got the impression that the Left parties which have supported the Congress-led coalition for the last four years, do not want mid-term polls and are in favour of the UPA government completing its full term.
“I discussed with Karat the concerns the Left had over the nuclear deal and I gathered that certain reservations voiced by him could be addressed by the government to reach an amicable solution on the issue,” Pawar told reporters in Pune.
While refusing to share the details of his talks with Karat, the Union agriculture minister said he had briefed the External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is dealing with the Left at government level, on the concerns expressed by Karat.
“There seems to be a way out to end the stalemate on the nuclear deal issue,” Pawar whose party is sharing power in the UPA government said.
