The UPA Government may have denied it has set up a committee to look into deals struck by the NDA Government, but the Left is charging ahead to ask for investigations into past deals.Beginning with the contract awarded to Dubai private operator, Flemingo International, by former civil aviation minister Rudy Pratap Singh, to run several duty free shops at airports in the country, CPI MP Ajay Chakravarty, has written a letter to Tourism Minister Renuka Choudhury asking her to probe ‘‘irregularities’’ in granting the contract to Flemingo. It has been signed by four other Left MPs.In the letter, Chakravarty has alleged the Dubai firm was given the contract despite the fact it did not meet the requirements underlined in the global tender floated by Airports Authority of India (AAI). The letter says Flemingo International did not meet any of the requirements. AAI had said the company should have a minimum of five years’ experience in operating duty free shops in India or abroad. The new company should have a minimum annual turnover of not less than Rs 70 crore, and thirdly, the new company should not have any financial disputes or back dues with AAI.
