Reacting to the Left Parties reported decision to have a “common approach” with the UNPA on the Indo-US nuclear deal, the Congress on Wednesday said the Communists need not become “desperate” as a solution can be found through the existing joint mechanism.

“The Left is becoming unnecessarily desperate. We are responding to them. We have formed the joint mechanism and are not operationalising (the deal) unless the mechanism comes out with a solution. We are hopeful that a solution will be found,” Congress media committee chairman Veerappa Moily said.

Moily claimed the Left is not against the nuclear deal per se but did not want it to be operationalised till American President George W Bush remained in office.

“CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said the deal should not be operationalised during the regime of George Bush. That is the only objection. That means they are not against the deal,” the Congress leader said.
