VADODARA, Sept 20: Lectures on DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) engineering in the past and future were delivered at a day-long seminar on `45 Years After the Discovery of DNA Structure’, here on Sunday.
Organised by the Society of Biological Chemists and Indian National Science Academy, the seminar was attended by a large number of students, researchers and scientists.
While M S University chancellor Mrunalini Puar and distinguished scientist R K Verma of Indian National Science Academy inaugurated the seminar, V V Modi, former head of the varsity’s department of microbiology introduced the guests and the subjects of the seminar.
Puar in her address stressed the need for fostering greater scientific spirit and promote researches to build a healthy and contended human race. B B Chattoo, Head of Microbiology Department and Biotechnology department, MSU, spoke on DNA and plant sciences and the genetic engineering and highlighted its various benefits, citing the instances of the various modified agricultural produces, their merits and stressed for more work in the field. S K Mahajan, Head of Molecular biology and agricultural diseases, BARC, Mumbai, spoke on `Genome Analysis and We’.
