Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said on Thursday that law of the land should take its course if there was ‘‘visible evidence” allegedly involving former Defence minister George Fernandes in the Tehelka case.

‘‘Whole world saw what was happening on TV, what more proof was required,” Singh told a reporter, apparently referring to the Tehelka expose. Asked if the UPA government would register a case him, Singh said: ‘‘I cannot announce anything now if there will be any case. If there is visible evidence, law of the land should take its course.”

Asked how the UPA would fight corruption as there were chargesheeted persons in his ministry, Singh said, ‘‘We are a responsible government and we looked at it in a comprehensive manner. If a person is not convicted, he/she is innocent”.

Singh said the UPA was committed to transparency with a Lokayukta and a Lok Pal Bill. ‘‘We will make successful efforts in this regard.’’
