PUNE, August 6: The State Government’s decision to reject the Srikrishna Commission report on the Mumbai riots in 1992-93 did not affect the law and order situation here in any manner, said additional commissioner of police M.S. Maheshgauri on Thursday evening.
Saying that no extreme reaction had been noticed so far, Maheshgauri said there was no need to further beef up the existing security measures. The police are prepared to deal with any situation, he added.
The Pune police have already beefed up the security by deploying 3,400 personnel, including 18 sub-inspectors, 35 inspectors, 14 assistant commissioners and five deputy commissioners. The policemen will be assisted by 500 home guards.
Two companies of state reserve police force and a company of the rapid action force are on alert. Besides, meetings of peace and mohalla committees are being organised for the past week. The police have tested their ability to deal with the possible fallout of tabling of the report by conducting a mock exercise to curb riots.
