In UP,Amit Shah sells ‘Vikas Purush’ Modi to party workers

Shah said that the NDA will form the government at the Centre in 2014

In his first interaction with party leaders in Uttar Pradesh,BJP general secretary Amit Shah on Wednesday projected Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Vikas Purush’ and focussed on the need to strengthen the party organisation in the state.

Addressing state office-bearers and organisation secretaries at the BJP headquarters here,Shah said the party has given a major responsibility to “Narendra bhai” by appointing him the head of the Lok Sabha election campaign committee. “We have to assist him and work with him,” Shah said. He added that Modi’s development model in Gujarat was being praised all over the world and it should be highlighted in UP too. He asked the state unit to follow the Gujarat model of collecting financial contribution for the party. Financial assistance would be collected by selling coupons or through cheques to maintain transparency and the party will collect a minimum of Rs 1,000 from every booth.

“Contribution will be a must for those leaders who are holding important positions in society because of the party,” said state BJP president Laxmikant Bajpai.

As for the LS elections,Shah said: “Don’t be concerned about winning LS seats, instead, focus on winning booths. Once we win all the booths,LS seats will be won automatically.” Shah asked every state leader to adopt at least one booth and work for strengthening the organisation and linking the voter with the party. Every leader will have to hold meetings of his booth at least once a month,he said, adding that party had adopted this model in Chhattisgarh. He asked the office-bearers to tour their districts for at least 20 days in a month. Shah said that he will be in UP for at least 20 days every month and submit a report of his tour to the central leadership and state headquarters. Sources said Shah told the state unit that the BJP will contest all the 80 LS seats in UP.

Earlier, interacting with media persons at Amausi airport,Shah said that the NDA will form the government at the Centre in 2014 and its foundation would be laid in UP.
