Cong spokesperson maintained the Games should be first conducted successfully.

Despite a successful opening ceremony to the Commonwealth Games,Congress today indicated that axe is bound to fall on people found guilty of corruption in the preparations for the prestigious event.

Her statement came against the backdrop of reports of alleged malpractices by some people in the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee headed by Suresh Kalmadi.

It was a mix of both cheers and jeers for Kalmadi when he made his speech during the opening ceremony of the Games on Sunday.

Asked whether the party disagrees with Rajya Sabha MP and party leader Mani Shankar Aiyar’s strong criticism of the Games, the party spokesperson feigned ignorance about what the senior leader had said.
