NEW DELHI, Aug 20: Melody Queen Lata Mangeshkar today received the 1996 Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhavana Award for her outstanding contribution to the country through her national and patriotic music.“I consider this as the highest among the awards from Non-Governmental Organisations that I have received in my life,” the 68 year-old Lata said while receiving the award from the president, K R Narayanan, at a colourful function in Jawahar Bhavan here.The award comprising Rs 2.50 lakh cash, a shawl and a citation, was presented to her in the presence of the First Lady, Usha Narayanan, Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister, P V Narasimha Rao and Sitaram Kesri.Her famous song Aye mere watan ke logon, zara aankh mein bhar lo pani, made the jampacked audience spell-bound and the people gave her a standing ovation.
