Government extended by a month the last date for filing income tax returns in bulk to August 31. CBDT said the extension has been given as the scheme for bulk filing of returns by salaried class was announced as late as June 24.‘As adequate time is not available to enable the eligible employees to take full advantage of the scheme, the cbdt has decided that the due date for filing of returns for assessment year 2002-03 shall be August 31, 2002, instead of July 31, 2002,’’ a CBDT release said.
