Sri Lanka today unveiled a part of the strategy for Tuesday’s triangular series final when their three injured players were declared fit for the game against West Indies at the Premadasa Stadium. But, whether all three will play is a matter of speculation. Chaminda Vaas and Nuwan Zoysa, who have been sidelined before the start of the series in Dambulla a week ago, have been declared fit. And Sanath Jayasuriya is the third one to be passed fit.But there are question marks on the composition of the team. Zoysa may replace Pradeep Jayaprakash, who made his debut in the last game and Muttiah Muralitharan, rested against India on Wednesday be brought back for either Faveez Maharoof or Dilhara Fernando. This indicates that there is a switch in the type of surfaces used between the two venues.Zoysa, who bowled well in last year’s Asia Cup, has recovered from the back spasm that forced him to return to Colombo before the opening game. Atapattu is being rested under the rotation system and Mahela Jayawardene will step in as captainThe selectors and team management held a long meeting on Thursday and were in discussions again today about the make up of the side for the final. But, there is still uncertainty whether Jayasuriya will be risked. “At this stage we are still debating the issue,” said team manager Michael Tissera. “Nothing has been confirmed and we will have another look before the game before making a final decision,” he added. Jayasuriya is willing to play with his right shoulder strapped, but there is still concern about him diving to stop the ball. And if he sits out, Upul Tharanga will open with either Russel Arnold or Kumar Sangakkara. The Sri Lankan wicketkeeper says he is willing to take on the challenge as an opener if needed, but it was up to the management to decide. The likely scenario is that Vaas and Jayasuriya will be rested for today’s game and take the field against India on Tuesday with Zoysa in the attack along with a choice of Dilhara Fernando, Maharoof and maybe Lasith Malinga, who has been held back this series. “We have looked at all options and the team for the final will be selected on what we feel is the best team selection policy,” said a source close to the selectors. There is still some concern about Vaas’ fitness and while he was passed 95 per cent fit today, the bowler himself will need to make sure he is fit enough while Jayasuriya, who was running around fielding without any discomfort, still needs a final fitness test to satisfy the coach Tom Moody.
