South Africa’s Charl Langeveldt took five wickets and Herschelle Gibbs produced a spectacular run-out to restrict Sri Lanka to 209 in Wednesday’s World Cup Super 8s match.Tillekaratne Dilshan (58) and Russel Arnold (50) shared a 97-run sixth-wicket stand to salvage the innings before the Sri Lankans lost four wickets for one run to be dismissed in 49.3 overs.Langeveldt took wickets on the second, fifth and sixth balls of his last over — the 49th — and Shaun Pollock’s direct hit to run out Muttiah Muralitharan finished it off. It was Sri Lanka’s lowest total at this World Cup after topping Group B with comprehensive wins over India, Bangladesh and Bermuda.South Africa, coming off an 83-run loss to defending champions Australia in their last group match, got on top early with Makhaya Ntini having Upul Tharanga (12) caught at slip with the total at 13. Sanath Jayasuriya took a liking to Pollock’s bowling, however, hitting 26 from 27 balls before he was undone by a change in the attack. Langeveldt replaced Pollock and removed Jayasuriya and skipper Mahela Jayawardene, both misjudging the pace as Sri Lanka slumped to 65-3.Jayasuriya miscued Langeveldt to Kallis at point and Jayawardene (12) got a leading edge as he tried to turn a ball and spooned a simple catch to AB de Villiers in the covers. Kumar Sangakkara added 28 before gloving a legside catch off Andrew Hall to Mark Boucher and walking without waiting for the umpire’s decision. The Sri Lankans slipped to 98-5 in the 25th over when Gibbs ran out Chamara Silva for nine. Fielding the ball right-handed in close, he raced a few paces and then lunged to knock down two stumps. It was only slightly less dramatic than Jonty Rhodes’ run out of Inzamam-ul Haq that turned a 1992 World Cup match in South Africa’s favour against Pakistan. Dilshan and Arnold steadied the innings, building the total to 195-5. But Ntini broke through again, getting a thick edge to Justin Kemp to remove Dilshan.
