TROON, July 16: Former Masters champion Bernard Langer and former US PGA champion Steve Elkington drew the short straw when they were paired with Tiger Woods for the first two rounds of the British Open which starts here on Thursday.
With the almost certain circus that is bound to follow the 21-year-old American, both Langer and Elkington will not only have to compete with the Royal Troon links but the massive crowds that will follow Woods’ every shot.
The Royal and Ancient have already increased security for Woods to prevent him from being mobbed. “We have taken precautions. He is the sort of player people want to get extra close to and that is why he has been made a special case,” said R&A secretary Michael Banallack.
