NEW DELHI, JULY 13: Laltu Chatterjee of Eastern Railway won the individual championship of the 12th All India Railway Chess Championship scoring seven points in Calcutta, according to information received here today.
Eastern Railway were also declared the overall team champions with 14.5 points.
A total of 78 players from different Railways participated in the individual championship, organised by Eastern Railway Sports Association.
P D S Girinath of South-Central Railway emerged as runners-up attaining 6.5 points with progressive elimination 36.0 34.5 points.
Altogether 15 teams from different parts of the country participated in the championship. South Central Railway (Secunderabad) and Integral Coach Factory (Perambur) came second and third, respectively, in team event.
This was a FIDE-rated national level chess championship in which 31 rated players participated.
Guidelines for sports bodies
NEW DELHI: The Haryana government has approved guidelines for officials holding positions in various sports organisations, stipulating that no state government official will be a member or office-bearer of more than one organisation at the state or national level. The decision was made at a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Bansi Lal.
Sports department officials can now be part of one association while IAS and IPS cadre officials are required to take prior permission to hold an elected office and will have to inform the government if they are associated with any non-elective organisation.
Similar provisions will be incorporated in the service rules governing the conduct of state government employees, the Cabinet decided.
