With RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav still playing hard to get, the seat-sharing issue among secular allies in Bihar is hanging in limbo. The CPI and the RJD chief even went to the extent of trading charges today.

Laloo, who met Lok Jan Shakti’s Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday, is acting difficult. While Paswan has demanded 10 of the 40 Lok Sabha seats in Bihar, the RJD is not willing to give it more than two to three seats. Similarly, the RJD is also believed to have made up its mind to give somewhere between five and seven seats to the Congress.

Even the CPI(M) has been kept dangling, though it demanded just two seats, Purnea and Bhagalpur—the lowest among the allies. ‘‘Laloo has agreed to give us Bhagalpur. For the other seat, Sitaram (Yechuri) will be meeting him tomorrow,’’ CPI(M) general secretary Harkishen Singh Surjeet said. The party’s Subodh Roy represented Bhagalpur in the 13th Lok Sabha.

Surjeet denied his party will settle for just Purnea, from where Pappu Yadav contests elections. Senior Politburo member Prakash Karat had announced a few days ago that the CPI(M) would be fielding a candidate against Pappu once again.
