The report of the Second Labour Commission outlining reforms in labour laws in the organised sector and a protective umbrella legislation for workers in the unorganised sector would be tabled in the current session of Parliament.
‘‘The report was tabled in the Cabinet today which decided that it be placed in Parliament before being made public,’’ I&B Minister Sushma Swaraj told mediapersons.
The report deals with the labour reforms required for future market needs and demands while taking into account the emerging economic environment in terms of rapid technological changes, globalisation and liberalisation of trade and industry.
Sushma said the Cabinet did not discuss, formally or informally, the issue of railway zone bifurcation between West Bengal and Bihar. The item was not on the agenda, she added.
She said the Cabinet also approved an amendment in the Administrative Tribunals Act of 1985 to allow the abolition of Central Administrative Tribunal and state administrative tribunals.
An amendment in the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 was also approved giving more powers to the National Board. The Cabinet also decided that India would host the First Afro-Asian Games from October 24 to November 1 next year.
The Cabinet deferred a decision on closure of select units of Fertiliser Corporation of India, Hindustan Fertiliser Corporation and Pyrites Phosphates and Chemicals Ltd due to lack of time.
