After being featured as a strapping cricket extraaa (who gradually managed to turn into the leading attraction), the Bedi babe now has a meatier role in the Balaji bahu-buster Kyunki Saas Bhi….

‘‘Though that was already planned. It’s sheer coincidence that the drama around the World Cup is running parallel to the drama in the serial,’’ says a Kyunki Saas Bhi.. insider. Yes, Mandira’s role as Mihir’s ‘‘other woman’’ will weigh heavier by a few episodes during the forthcoming weeks.

No, the kudi factor doesn’t end here. SONY TV launched a new mini series titled Force 1 on March 14.

Mandira plays Indira, an ACP’s daughter who, instead of following her father’s footsteps, indulges in a crime-fighting process of a different sort.

She handles the high security data on criminals for Force 1, a body headed by Aryan (Parmeet Sethi) to combat Mumbai’s crime.

Incidentally, Force 1 is assigned to investigate a bomb blast in the city. ‘‘Given that Mandira has become the latest talking point on television only adds to our advantage,’’ adds Anupama Mandloi, vice-president, On Air Programming, SET India Ltd.

Mere Papa Ban Gaye Hero is the other serial on the same channel where Mandira plays the lead opposite Vijay Raaz. But going by the current wave, the serial might soon be called Meri Mummy Ban Gayi Heroine!

Back on the home front, film-maker hubby Raj Kaushal is all set to feature Mandira in a movie. ‘‘We’ve always wanted to work together. It’s been four years since we decided on a subject which doesn’t have the bindings of commercial cinema,’’ says Kaushal adding: ‘‘Mandira’s potential is immense, so no running-around-the-trees role for her.’’ However, there’s no date set yet.

Ask him whether he’s fed up of the never-ending Mandira-isms and the plethora of queries suddenly being bombarded at him.

‘‘Not really,’’ replies Kaushal, who’s completely smitten with his wife. ‘‘I’m glad that people are seeing the same thing that I saw in Mandira years ago,’’ he gushes. In fact, he’s rushing to South Africa today, not to catch the finals but to be with the current World Cup sensation from India.
