AMBALA, June 16: The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) proposes to open multi-discipline training centres in coordination with the KVIC Boards in all the states to impart vocational training to people, especially, from the rural areas. These centres, said the KVIC Chairman Mahesh Sharma, would give training to five million people to provide job opportunities in the next five years with special stress on the North-Eastern States, where the KVIC activities would be accelerated for the benefit of tribals.
Mahesh Sharma, after convening a meeting of Haryana entrepreneurs at Panipat, was addressing the mediapersons here yesterday. He said since the organised sector in the present scenario had limited role in providing job opportunities, the KVIC was committed to generate jobs through rural employment schemes.
Sharma said with the increase in the customs duty, the home industry would get boost as the imports were likely to come down.
The KVIC Chairman, while lauding the work done by the Haryana KVIC Board, stated that after reviewing its activities and achievements it was found that its functioning was better than that of Punjab Board, which was found starved of funds.
Sharma said there was a large scope for expansion of the khadi and handloom units having export potential. Sharma said he had asked the State Board to formulate an action plan to boost export-oriented units. Sharma said that the KVIC had made exports worth Rs 50 crore and they would be doubled this year.
