MUMBAI, July 21: Avinash Kriplani of Khar Gymkhana and Bhavna Sharma of BPCL asserted their domination in the boys and girls categories respectively in the just-concluded Greater Mumbai Amateur Aquatics Association Age group and Open Championship.
With a total of nine records re-written by Kriplani in this event, the 13-year-old of AVM Juhu has a lot of promise. Of all the records, two came in the freestyle, three in backstroke and two in intermediate medley. The class eight lad showed plenty of grit and determination like a true professional. Two of his marks — in the 100m freestyle and 50m backstroke — on the second day came when he was running temperature.
Another revelation in the meet was the 13-year-old Bhavna. The ever-smiling class eight student of Swami Vivekanand sunk six meet records. She sounded confident before the start of the event. Though swimming is her passion, Bhavna is also a keen athlete.
