AMELIA ISLAND (US), APRIL 11: Anna Kournikova was again derailed in her bid for her first WTA Tour singles title as the Russian teenager fell to unseeded Romanian Ruxandra Dragomir in the semifinals of the Bausch and Lomb Championships last night.

Dragomir halted the ninth-seeded Kournikova’s run on the Amelia Island clay by scoring a 6-3, 7-5 victory that set up a final against second seed Monica Seles, who annihilated former champion Conchita Martinez 6-0, 6-1.

The 38th-ranked Dragomir, owner of four career WTA Tour titles, became only the second unseeded player in the tournament’s 20-year history to reach the final, joining Carling Bassett, who went on to lose to Chris Evert in 1983.
