MUMBAI, MAY 25: Nagargoje Madan Bibhishan of Vivekanand College, Kolhapur has topped the list of merit rankers in the state with 98.17 per cent marks in the HSC results declared today by the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education.
The second position is held by two candidates from Shivaji Science College, Nagpur — Baviskar Kapil Murlidhar and Gupta Vishakha Suresh, both with 97.50 per cent marks. Yogi Manojkumar Neminath of Dayanand Science College in Latur is third, with 97.33 per cent.
Out of the 6,26,898 students who gave the HSC exams held in February this year, 4,33,276 cleared the tests putting the passing percentage at 60.53. The overall pass percentage for the fresh candidates is 69.11 and Mumbai divisional board has topped the list with 80.28 percentage. Mumbai has also topped in repeaters and sex-wise performances.
This year too, the percentage of girls who have cleared the exams is higher than that of boys in all the eight state divisions. The passing percentage of female students is 74.71, while that of males is 65.29 per cent. Gupta Vishakha Suresh from Nagpur, who stands second in state, is the topper among girls. In the Backward Class category, Yogi Manojkumar Neminath (third in the overall category) has stood first.
In the science stream (non-vocational), Chavan Abhijit Ganapatrao of Vivekanand College, Kolhapur is the topper with 97.50 per cent, while in Arts (non-vocational) Edake Seema Suresh from Mahatma Basweshwar College has stood first with 92.33 per cent. Mundhe Dhanashree Ravindra of Symbiosis Society S College, Pune has topped the commerce (non-vocational) list with 91.83 per cent marks. The topper in the vocational subjects catogory is state topper Madan Bhibhishan.
The highest number of students to have cleared the tests are from the commerce category (79.45 per cent) followed by the science stream (77.66 per cent), arts (61.26 per cent) and MCVC — Minimum Competency for Vocational Course (62.10 per cent). With a pass percentage of 74.12 (including freshers and repeaters) Mumbai tops the list in the state divisions, followed by Pune at 69.17 percent and Nasik at 60.91 percent. In Nagpur, 45.17 per cent students passed the exams, while in Aurangabad the per cent is 53.11. In Kolhapur, the pass percentage is 66.13 , Amravati — 50.20 per cent and in Latur, it is 54.64 per cent.
This year, among the 1,53,260 repeaters who gave the exams, 38,938 have cleared. The passing percentage (60.53) this year is lowest in the last three years as the passing percentage in 1999 was 76.24 per cent, in 1998 it was 69.24 per cent and in 1997, 60.93 per cent.
