Gandhinagar, Nov 18: Both the rival factions in the State Congress, one led by former Chief Minister Madhavsinh Solanki and the other by C D Patel-Amarsinh Chaudhary combine, have started mobilising support among the party workers to present their views on the party’s Lok Sabha poll debacle before the party’s Central Introspection Committee headed by A K Antony arrive at Gandhinagar on Saturday.

Though originally the committee was to meet the party workers at Ahmedabad, the party leadership later shifted the venue to the State Capital in an apparent bid to pre-empt a reported move by the Solanki faction to create ruckus during the hearing. This faction has been demanding a change in both the PCC and CLP leadership. "We have had a definite information that a group of party workers led by Solanki loyalist and former MLA Surendra Rajput, known for his muscle power, has planned to create some trouble. But, since the venue of the hearing has been shifted from the humdrum city of Ahmedabad to the isolated Gandhinagar, Solanki supporters will not succeed in their mission," a Congress leader owing allegiance to C D Patel-Chaudhary combine told the Express Newsline here on Thursday.

He claimed that both PCC chief C D Patel and CLP leader Amarsinh Chaudhary enjoyed overwhelming support in the party’s organisational and elected wings respectively, while Solanki camp had the support of only three legislators in the CLP Solanki’s son Bharat, Mukesh Gadhvi and Udesinh Baria. The PCC chief and CLP leader will meet Antony committee members separately and discuss with them the situation arising out of the party’s poll debacle.Similarly, some senior State leaders loyal to Solanki are expected to have separate parleys with the committee members and press their demand for the removal of both Patel and Chaudhary from their respective posts.
