Set up by interior designers and friends, Pooja Kedia and Niki Sanghi, Tree House provides everything your child dreamt of: double-decker beds, little chairs, soft boards, shelves, cupboards, CD racks, growth charts, book holders, pen holders, cloth hangers. the list goes on. These are all painted in child-friendly colours and often feature popular cartoon figures. In fact, for all you Peter Pan fans, most of their cute objects easily mould themselves to adult rooms too.The whackier ones include theme-shelves (like the one with basket-ball hoops and table-tennis rackets for young sports freaks) and "cookie couches" to lounge on. Soft boards, bookends, tables and chairs are the most popular items. Tree House also make items to order, which means that one can get them personalised. Everything is with either wood or acrylic. Both Niki and Pooja graduated from Sophia Polytechnic. Once on the job, they soon realised that there were hardly any specialists in children's furniture and accessories. And so the idea for Tree House germinated. As Niki says: "Besides the business viability of the project, the idea of making things for children was interesting."Starting with an exhibition at World Trade Center last December, the business has come a long way. With two more exhibitions (including the recent IMC Ladies Wing's `Women Entrepreneurs Exhibition') under their belt, they now have a steady stream of clients. While they currently operate from a workshop in South Mumbai, they soon plan to shift to a regular shop. Making memories never looked more easier, but then, neither did shopping for kids.
