KHARAR, Aug 17: Union Minister for Tourism and Parliamentary Affairs Madan Lal Khurana will visit Anandpur Sahib in Roopnagar district on Wednesday to lay the foundation stone of a three-star hotel and a tourist reception centre.
This was disclosed by Vini Mahajan, managing director, Punjab Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC), who is also the chief administrator of the Anandpur Sahib Urban Planning and Development Authority, during a talk with ENS.
Mahajan said that Indian Tourism Development Corporation and PTDC have teamed up to set up a three-star hotel and a tourist reception centre at Anandpur Sahib.
While the hotel will come up at an estimated cost of Rs 6.45 crore, about Rs 97.64 lakh will be spent on setting up the tourist reception centre. This 50-room joint venture will be the first hotel project of its kind being taken up by the ITDC in Punjab while a tourist reception centre will also be the first of its kind.
Mahajan stated that the Punjab Government had sanctioned five acres of land free of cost for a the hotel and one acre free of cost for the tourist reception centre.
A suitable site for this project has already been selected and acquired and it is expected that work will begin very soon. The project will require about 18 months for completion.
The state government has already made provisions for the necessary funds in its annual plan for this project.
Mahajan added that construction of core elements will be completed before February 1999, so that information, banking, postal and other services can be made available under one roof to the visitors and tourists during the tercentenary celebrations of Khalsa Panth scheduled to be held at Anandpur Sahib next year.
