Reflecting the continuing disarray within the BJP, a few party leaders who have been sidelined in recent years today announced the formation of a ‘‘non-political’’ organisation, the Purvanchal Kranti Sangh, to take up the cause of people from eastern regions of the country, particularly Bihar, Jharkhand and eastern UP.The announcement was made by former Delhi chief minister Madanlal Khurana and former MP Kirti Azad at the residence of Shatrughan Sinha. Sinha, though, was not present at the press conference and Yashwant Sinha — who was supposed to attend it — also did not turn up.While Khurana and Azad refused to answer ‘‘political questions’’, the BJP’s official response indicated that the party leadership was far from happy with the development.BJP spokesman Arun Jaitley said, ‘‘We have no objection if any non-political organisation is formed. But it would have been better if those who have so much concern for the people of Bihar and other eastern regions joined their struggle against the 15-year misrule of the RJD.’’However, Jaitley’s sarcastic comment only underlined the real reason for the discontent among the ‘‘disgruntled’’ leaders. Shatrughan Sinha, and to a less extent Azad and Yashwant Sinha, are angry with the BJP leadership for not giving them any worthwhile work, not even in the Bihar polls.
