KHARAR, April 23: The Kharar Municipal Council is facing a financial crisis as the liabilities of the council have crossed Rs 12 lakh against the cash amount of Rs 80,000 in hand. This information was given to the municipal councillors by the accountant at the general body meeting of the council held here, yesterday.The meeting was held at the Town Hall of the council under the chairmanship of Preet Kanwal Singh, senior vice-president, to discuss the financial position of the council. The MC authorities assured the submission of the detailed financial report at the next meeting.The councillors expressed great concern over the octroi evasion and deteriorating arrangements of cleanliness, drinking water supply and street light in the township. They asked the MC authorities to take immediate steps in the matter.Rajesh Kumar Gupta, an Independent councillor from Ward 5 here, raised the issue of garbage dump at the entrance of the road leading to cremation grounds. The council adopted a resolution on shifting the garbage dumping site and formed a sub-committee comprising Rajesh Kumar Gupta, Om Parkash Aggarwal, Natrajan Kaushal (all councillors), Sanitary Inspector and executive officer of the Council to select a new site.It was also resolved in the meeting to spend Rs 15,000 to the central government as document charges for the approval of the Integrated Development of Small and Medium Town (IDSMT) Scheme under which a sum of Rs 2 crore would be spent for the development of the township. The central government would provide a special grant of Rs 90 lakh and the Punjab government would provide a special grant of Rs 60 lakh while the remaining sum of Rs 50 lakh would be arranged from other agencies like HUDCO etc as a loan which would be returned by the Council in easy installments.
