Uttarakhand BJP will soon have a new state president. Krishna Morari Moghe, party MP and in-charge of Uttarakhand affairs, on Sunday announced that the process of organisational elections in the state, which were postponed due to Assembly elections, would soon be set in motion. As per the BJP party constitution, a person cannot hold the post of state president for two consecutive terms. This means Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, the present state chief, would have to be replaced. Koshiyari’s replacement would give much relief to rival and state Chief Minister Maj Gen B C Khanduri (retd). Both of them were contenders for the post of Chief Minister following the Assembly elections. According to party sources, former Union Minister Bacchi Singh Rawat is a strong contender for the post of state president. Since Khanduri is a Brahmin from Garhwal, the party would prefer Bacchi Singh Rawat, a Thakur from Kumaon to balance the regional and caste aspirations in the state.
