In an effort to check illegal water connections, the Kerala Government has decided to issue water cards to consumers of drinking water. The Government is about to introduce an ordinance to check water theft and exploitation of drinking water and will soon implement the Kerala Water Authority Supply and Sewerage Amendment Bill in this regard.“It is important to have a data of consumers to implement the Bill. Once we distribute the cards, it would help us identify and disconnect illegal water connections. Random inspections held in urban and rural sectors have shown that there are many illegal connections,” Water Resources Minister N K Premachandran said at a workshop on Water Quality Control and Management.
