With the appointment of M L Kumawat as the new Director General of BSF, a key position in the Home Ministry, that of Special Secretary (Internal Security), is up for grabs. The government is yet to announce the name of his replacement. With internal security being a matter of heated public debate of late, the post has become extremely high-profile. Kerala DGP Raman Srivastava is said to be the front-runner for the post, although many other names are also in the reckoning. Srivastava, a 1973-batch IPS officer, has been heading Kerala Police for over three and a half years now and is said to be keen to take up the job.
