PUNE, DECEMBER 23: The Pune police on Wednesday issued an appeal to owners of the city’s hotels, lodges and guest houses to inform them about foreigners taking rooms on rent.
The appeal has been made to track down foreigners overstaying in the country after the expiry of their visas, senior officials from the Special Branch of Pune police said.
The officials said that as per the legal provisions, the hoteliers were required to inform the police about the foreigners staying in their hotels within 24 hours after they checked in.
The police officials have also warned the hoteliers of prosecution if they failed to provide the information to the police. Such hoteliers may be sentenced to imprisonment up to five years and fine of Rs 5,000 if found guilty, they added.
