MANCHESTER, MAY 18: Manchester United captain Roy Keane was released on bail today after he was arrested overnight when a woman claimed he had assaulted her in a bar, police said.

Keane has not been charged with any offence, but will have to report to a Manchester police station on July 13.

“He has been bailed pending further inquiries,” a Manchester police spokeswoman said.

Keane was arrested after a complaint by an unnamed woman concerning an incident at Henry’s Cafe-bar in central Manchester, police said.

An Australian woman, Leanne Carey, told The Sun newspaper that Keane had kicked her in the thigh and poured a glass of beer over her friend, Maxine Bourke.

The incident came a day after Manchester United lifted the English Premier League trophy in front of a capacity crowd at Old Trafford.
