MUMBAI, December 4: Deputy commissioner of the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation R K Sonawane has lodged a complaint against one Avadfhut Sitaram Patil (28) for threatening to shoot him dead.
Patil claims to be one of the thousands who had applied in reply to an advertisement for recruitment to the KDMC around four months ago. The recruitment drive was mired in controversy as its very legality was questioned, and it was put on the back burner.
Patil first threatened Sonawane, then officiating commissioner, a month ago, telling him he would shoot him dead if he was not offered a job. A month later, he sought an appointment with Sonawane in his office. When Sonawane refused, Patil began abusing him loudly in the KDMC corridors and had to be restrained by security. Said Sonawane, “I thought he was just worked up and didn’t mean anything.”
Patil even began following Sonawane in the KDMC premises and at functions outside. While the deputy commissioner finally went ahead with a police complaint, he seemed reluctant to press charges.
Sources say this could be because Patil, a Chiknagar resident, has prominent Shiv Sena ties in the local shakha. Predictably, Sonawane refutes this. “Patil may have taken an extreme step, but it was his frustration due to joblessness that may have led him on. So I don’t think it makes sense to press charges and get him into further trouble.”
