Kathak may be her passion, but Rani Khanam has dedicated it to the cause of spreading awareness about HIV-AIDS among the masses. Khanam, who performed today at Springdale Senior School during a function organised by Society For Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPICMACAY), said dance could go a long way in preventing HIV-AIDS, which was increasing at an alarming rate. Khanam, who heads ‘Ability Unlimited’, India’s first dance theatre where disabled artistes perform, feels that the dance could be used for therapeutic purposes. She maintained that the dance form was widely acclaimed in India and abroad due to its richness and hence, could go a long way in assisting her in her mission of spreading awareness.
