THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Jan 1: Senior Congress leader K Karunakaran today criticised the Kerala Government for its decision to drop the ailing veteran Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP) leader Baby John from the state cabinet.“Baby John was a very senior leader. Dropping him when he was ailing was cruel and inhumane. People would not forgive the Government,” Karunakaran said, addressing a press meet here.

“Will the heavens come down if Baby John was allowed to continue as a Minister? The government action is unfortunate. It does not have basic decency and propriety,” Karunakaran said

Referring to the Sivagiri issue, the Congress leader said he did not want to go into the controversy. However, fasts should not be undertaken to take revenge or for personal gains, Karunakaran said.

No religious institution could be taken over by any political party, be it the BJP or CPM. The Sivagiri mutt was built on the solid foundation of the teachings of Sree Narayana Guru. The government should not interfere in the working of religious mutts or use the mutt issue to achieve political ends, he added.
